This course is presented by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in cooperation with the Sheridan Police Department. 

This FREE course is designed to provide law enforcement with the tools, techniques and strategies to effectively respond to the mysterious disappearance of a child and child abduction investigations. At the conclusion of the course, attendees will be able to identify and effectively utilize the investigative tools/methods that will be explained through operational outcomes, case studies and research as the “best practices” in child abduction investigations.

Child abductions and missing children investigations are some of the most difficult and emotionally exhausting cases a law enforcement officer will be a part of during their career. During this training, members of the FBI’s national Child Abduction Rapid Deployment (CARD) team will discuss the different investigative phases of child abductions and provide best practices based on the numerous cases in which they have deployed across the United States. This class will provide useful information for not only investigators, but patrol officers, support staff and executives who will be involved in the investigation. 

This training is based on the FBI’s Child Abduction Response Plan (CARP), which is the national model for best practices when responding to and investigating cases involving children who are missing under mysterious or suspicious circumstances. Attendees will receive a copy of the CARP, which provides step by step guidance to law enforcement agencies and personnel conducting these investigations. Upon completion of the training, attendees will be better equipped to respond to these types of investigations.

Principle Instructors:

Instructors are members of the FBI’s Child Abduction Rapid Deployment (CARD) Team. The CARD team consists of experienced and specially trained personnel who quickly respond to non-family child abductions, ransom child abductions, and mysterious disappearances of children across the country to provide investigative, technical and resource assistance to state/local law enforcement.
